The Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (CCFD) is considered to be the first NGO in France. It comprises 28 church based groups and movements.
CCFD has a two main missions; it supports its southern and eastern partners maintaining long term relationships which are not limited only to simple financial relationships but also to build a vision for the future and a long term strategy together. In order to increase citizen’s awareness of international realities and of the importance of international solidarity, CCFD also provides development education with a network of 15.000 volunteers all over France. Better educated and better informed, everybody can develop a critical mind and become an actor of international solidarity, according to one’s means.
CCFD also lobbies the decision makers of politics and economics in particular on the issues of food security, peace and human rights, economic solidarity and development financing.
In relation to the development financing, CCFD leads a debt and development platform which brings together about twenty organizations and trade unions campaigning for debt relief and for an international law on debt. Plate-forme Dette et Développement deals with problems concerning tax havens, global taxes and overseas development aid.
