Forum Syd is a meeting point for people and organisations with different ideas and experiences, which work for one common goal – global justice. We share the understanding that civil society is an important force for change in the world. In what we call the civil society, people gather and join together in associations, networks and groups outside of the State, family and business worlds. Together with organisations around the world, we hope to contribute to the efforts of women and men to organize themselves in democratic ways to build a vivid civil society.

Through Forum Syd, member organisations carry out joint development efforts in Cambodia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Forum Syd has offices and development personnel in these countries. In Central and Eastern Europe, Forum Syd cooperates with local NGO-centres to strengthen civil society. This cooperation currently takes place in the Baltic countries, western Russia, The Ukraine, Belarus and Moldavia.

Forum Syd works together with other organisations to form public opinion and to influence those in power on global justice issues. Forum Syd strives to change political regulations for, among other things, trade, investments and debt cancellations, as these have significant influence on world development. Forum Syd wants to act to support global economic politics that promote fair and sustainable global development. We therefore monitor the activities of, among others, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, IMF, the World Trade Organization, WTO, and the United Nations, UN.
