Hosted by Monica Frassoni MEP, co-president of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance,

co-organised with

a coalition of European environmental and development groups working together in a new campaign group called Counter Balance: Challenging the European Investment Bank.

With annual lending volumes now approaching EUR 50 billion, the EIB is the number one public bank in the world. In its 50 years of operations, the scope of the EIB’s operations has changed considerably in comparison with its original mandate to mobilise and transfer capital from richer to poor EU regions through the financing of infrastructure projects.

Welcome to a debate on the challenges faced today by the EIB as a result of the increased role it is playing as a development bank in regions outside the EU.

Speakers: Luis Riera, DG DEV; EIB; Alain Lipietz (MEP); Claude Turmes (MEP), Gabi Zimmer (MEP), David Cook (Department for International Development, UK), Joe Hanlon (Open University London); Anne-Sophie Simpere (les Amis de la Terre, France).
